EMPOWERING INDONESIAN DIASPORA TO ACCELERATE NATIONAL HRD

Jakarta, 17/8 (Antara) - Some seven million Indonesians living overseas are a huge asset for national development if they are synergized with the Indonesian governments programs.

Supporting the Indonesian Vision of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for his second term (2019-2024), the Fifth Congress of Indonesian Diaspora (CID-5) was organized in Jakarta, from Aug 10 to 13, 2019, by the Indonesian Diaspora Network-Global (IDN-Global).

Themed Empowering Indonesia's Human Capital, the congress discussed efforts to strengthen the role of the Indonesian diaspora in improving the quality of human resources in their home country.

"We chose this theme because human resource is the Indonesian diasporas biggest strength. We believe human resource development is the key to Indonesia's future," Gerald Eman, the president of IDN-Global Mark told the press prior to the CID-5.

Dino Patti Djalal, chairman of the Indonesian Diaspora Network-Global (IDN-Global) Board of Trustees, believed that if the Indonesian Diaspora is synergized with the governments programs, the impact would be enormous.

"The diaspora can function as an accelerator for the development of Indonesian human resources in the future and this could be the key for Indonesia to become the giant of Asia," said Djalal, who is also a senior diplomat and former Indonesian Ambassador to the United States.

The CID-5 is a biannual event organized to connect Indonesians living abroad and create a platform for them to contribute to national development.

Some 5,000 participants comprising Indonesian diaspora from around the world, government officials, religious figures, politicians, celebrities, artists, athletes, innovators, academics and youth leaders attended the event.

Jakarta, Aug 26, 2017 (Antara) - The Indonesian government has pinned high hopes on some eight million members of the Indonesian diaspora living in various countries, as they are viewed as valuable assets and envoys representing the interests of Indonesia.

            In July this year, the fourth Diaspora Congress, organized by the Indonesian Diaspora Network Global (IDN Global), discussed recent issues, including tolerance, diplomacy, business, innovation, and cultural inheritance.

            A month later, the Indonesian Diaspora Global Summit was held for the first time by IDN Global and the Indonesian Diaspora Business Council in Jakarta on Aug 21-22 that focused on three main topics: education and health for Papua and West Papua, contribution of the diaspora to energy savings through the use of cutting-edge technology; as well as protection to the Indonesian diaspora.

           Edward Wanandi, who is in charge of holding the IDN Global Meeting, said the event was organized to exchange ideas between members of the diaspora and national stakeholders for the development of Indonesia.

           "We also want to seek inputs from the Indonesian government regarding the community's needs, so that we can better participate in the development of Indonesia, as sometimes, the things that we consider important are not really needed by our society," he pointed out.

        The Indonesian Government and the people have hoped that the Indonesian diaspora could contribute positively and concretely to national development by using the sciences and knowledge they have obtained overseas.

INDONESIA VIEWS DIASPORA AS A VALUABLE DEVELOPMENT ASSET by Fardah

Jakarta, July 6, 2017 (Antara) - Some eight million members of the Indonesian diaspora living in various countries across the world are viewed as valuable assets and envoys representing the interests of the world's fourth most populous nation.
       Indonesian Diaspora groups comprise Indonesian citizens living overseas and Indonesians having migrated from Indonesia and acquired foreign nationalities, as well as Indonesian descendants, or people of Indonesian origin.        
  According to the 2012 data, the number of registered Indonesian diaspora had reached 4.6 million people, but it is estimated that there are around eight to 10 million members of the Indonesian diaspora abroad.
       On July 1-4, 2017, the Indonesian Diaspora Network Global (IDN Global) organized the fourth Diaspora Congress, which was a series of discussions involving the Indonesian diaspora from various backgrounds and highlighting recent issues, including tolerance, diplomacy, business, innovation, and culture inheritance.
       Some nine thousand people from 55 countries, including the US, China, Mexico, Germany, Suriname, Qatar, Oman, Brunei Darussalam, France, the Netherlands, and Myanmar, attended the congress held in Jakarta.
       The congress, themed "Synergize To Build the Nation," presented 42 speakers including Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi, former US president Barack Obama, and Jakarta Governor-elect Anies Baswedan.     
  President Joko Widodo was presented an award by IDN Global for his efforts in supporting the community while promoting the country overseas.

INDONESIAN DIASPORA - NO MATTER WHERE, FORGET NOT MOTHERLAND by Fardah

     Jakarta, March 8, 2013 (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told Indonesian Diaspora in Berlin, Germany on March 5, 2013, to always remember Indonesia and give contribution for the country's development wherever they are.

        "It is not important whether you will return to Indonesia or you have decided to live in other countries. The most important is how you could always give your contribution to Indonesia," the head of state said before 60 members of Indonesian Diaspora consisting of among others post-graduate students, researchers, and lecturers.
