REITERATING NAM'S COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING PALESTINIAN STRUGGLE FOR INDEPENDENCE by Fardah

Jakarta, Sept 17, 2016 (Antara) - Indonesia has been consistently voicing its support to the Palestinian people in their struggle against occupation by Israeli Zionist regime over the past 68 years.

         Having experienced what it means being colonized by foreign forces, Indonesia, which gained independence in August 1945, has always been against colonialism. It, therefore, has been calling for international solidarity with Palestine at various regional and international meetings.

         Speaking during a ministerial level meeting of the Palestine Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held in Venezuela, on Sept. 16, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi reiterated a call to every NAM member country to continue to support the Palestinian people until Palestine becomes a sovereign nation with East Jerusalem as its capital.

          The minister particularly appealed to NAM members, who have not yet recognized the Palestinian state, to accord their full recognition soon.

          She also emphasized the importance of NAM member countries' support for the resumption of the Palestinian peace process.

           The Indonesian government fully supports the French government's initiative to reopen the peace talks.

           Indonesia was one of the 28 countries that participated in the Paris Meeting held in June 2016.

          Besides, stronger international pressure is needed to stop Israel from committing further violence and human rights violations against the Palestinian people.

RI VOICES NAM'S CONCERN ABOUT NUCLEAR WEAPONS THREAT By Fardah

      Jakarta, June 25, 2011 (ANTARA) - As the Coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)`s Working Group on Disarmament, Indonesia has been very active in voicing the grouping`s concern about the threat of nuclear weapon to humanity.
      At the General Debate of the 2008 United Nations Disarmament Commission New York, in April 2008, Dr. Marty M. Natalegawa, who was at that time Indonesia`s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, on behalf of NAM, stressed that progress in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation in all its aspects is essential to the strengthening of international peace and security.

NAM DEMANDS RELEASE OF PALESTINIAN POLITICAL DETAINEES IN ISRAEL by Fardah

      Jakarta, May 28, 2011 (ANTARA) - The deep concern expressed by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa about Palestinian political prisoners including children in Israeli jails, perhaps could be better represented by what Lord Alf Dubs said in the British Parliament on May 4, 2011:
        "In the (Israeli) court we visited we saw a 14 year-old and a 15-year-old (Palestinian children), one of them in tears, both looking absolutely bewildered. What shocked me as much as anything was to see that these young persons-children-had chains or shackles around their ankles while sitting in court. They were also handcuffed as they went into court. Although the handcuffs were taken off while they were in court, they were put on again as they left the court."

NAM Meeting In Bali Momentum To Garner Support For Palestine by Fardah

      Jakarta, May 27, 2011  (ANTARA News) - Palestine has always been a topic in Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meetings, and this is also the case at the ongoing 16th NAM Ministerial Meeting in Bali which reaffirms support  for an independent state of Palestine.
       The NAM meeting which also marks with the 50th anniversary of the Movement, on Wednesday (May 25) adopted  a "Bali Commemorative Declaration" including on Palestine.
