TURKEY, INDONESIA TO FORGE CLOSER TIES IN VARIOUS FIELDS by Fardah

Jakarta, July 11, 2017 (Antara) - Indonesia and one of its closest partners, Turkey, have established cooperation in several fields, particularly in the economic, political, education, and strategic industries.

        In fact, Turkish-Indonesian relations can be traced back to the 12th century when Turkish Islamic scholars had visited Indonesia to spread Islamic teachings.    
    To strengthen the bilateral ties further, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had made a state visit to Indonesia from July 30 to August 1, 2015, coinciding with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

        On July 6, this year, it was President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) turn to pay a reciprocal visit to Turkey. Jokowi commenced his state visit to Turkey by holding a one-on-one meeting with Erdogan.

        The two presidents discussed economic development and security cooperation, including on counterterrorism efforts.

        They also witnessed the signing of documents of agreements on health and economic cooperation at the White Palace in Ankara.

         Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi signed the document of agreement on health cooperation, while Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita signed the document of inauguration of negotiations on Indonesian-Turkish Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IT-CEPA).

         "I welcome the signing of the two cooperation agreement documents between the governments of Indonesia and Turkey in the fields of health and the launch of negotiations on Indonesian and Turkish Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement," Jokowi stated.

INDONESIA, TURKEY REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO BOOSTING BILATERAL TIES by Fardah

 Jakarta, April 22, 2016 (Antara) - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and her Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavusoglu at a recent meeting reaffirmed the two nations' commitment to forging closer bilateral ties, particularly to intensify economic cooperation.   
    Turkey is one of Indonesia's closest partners. The two countries have signed the Indonesia-Turkey Joint Declaration Towards an Enhanced Partnership in a New World Setting. The declaration was signed by the Indonesian and Turkish presidents in Jakarta on April 5, 2011.

         Turkish investment in Indonesia in 2014 was recorded at US$64.1 million in 29 projects, rising significantly from $11.7 million in 22 projects in 2013. However, Turkish investment in Indonesia dropped to $3.9 million in 2015.

         The value of trade between Indonesia and Turkey in 2015 stood at $1.4 billion, which is the seventh-largest in Western Europe.

INDONESIA, TURKEY WORK HARMONIOUSLY IN BILATERAL, MULTILATERAL PLATFORMS by Fardah

Jakarta, Aug 7, 2015 (Antara) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a three-day state visit to Indonesia from July 30 to August 1 to strengthen bilateral economic, social and political relations between the two Muslim-majority countries.         The visit also marked the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.         In fact, the Turkish-Indonesian relations can be traced back to the 12th century when Turkish Islamic scholars had visited Indonesia to spread Islamic teachings.      The state visit to Indonesia was Erdogan's first ever as Turkey's president, but he had visited the nation three times in his previous capacity as prime minister.          Speaking about his country's foreign policy during a conference held at the Indonesian Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) on July 31, President Erdogan said that Turkey and Indonesia have worked in harmony in both bilateral and multilateral platforms.

INDONESIA, TURKEY CLOSER TO COOPERATION IN DEFENSE INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT by Fardah

   Jakarta, July 1, 2014 (Antara) - Turkey and Indonesia have been exploring cooperation in military and defense industry development over the last few years.

        This was in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on defense industry signed by the two countries when President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had visited Turkey in June 2010.

         At a closed-door meeting at the Indonesian Parliament building on June 30, 2014, the Indonesian government and the House of Representatives (DPR) had agreed to begin the deliberation of a bill to ratify the defense industry agreement between Indonesia and Turkey.

TURKISH, INDONESIAN PARLIAMENTS COMMITTED TO CLOSER BILATERAL TIES by Fardah

      Jakarta, Sept 25, 2012 (ANTARA) - Bilateral relations between Turkey and Indonesia have been strengthened following the visits of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to Turkey in June 2010 and Turkish President Abdullah Gul to Jakarta in early April 2011.
       The two leaders` visits were historic for both nations because Yudhoyono`s visit was the first by an Indonesian President to Turkey in the last 25 years, while Gul`s visit was the first by a Turkish President to Jakarta in the last 16 years.

TURKEY KEEN TO PARTICIPATE IN ASEAN MEETINGS

      Jakarta, Sept 20, 2012 (ANTARA) - Turkey wants to take part in the various meetings of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as an observer, according to a Turkish legislator.
       "Turkey has applied to be present at ASEAN meetings because the organisation promotes regional stability and peace, which fits our philosophy. Turkey has always wanted to have good relations with other countries, including our neighbouring nations," Turkish parliamentary delegation head Volkan Bozkir told ANTARA here on Wednesday.

TRADE VALUE OF INDONESIA-TURKEY INCREASES: ENVOY

     Jakarta, April 7, 2011 (ANTARA) - The value of Indonesia-Turkey trade was recorded at 1.7 billion US dollars in 2010, up from 1.2 billion US dollars in 2009, according to an Indonesian ambassador.

          "Since the visit of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to Turkey in June 2010 up to the visit of Turkish President Abdullah Gul to Indonesia this week, there has been progresses in the bilateral trade value," Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Nahari Agustini said here Thursday.

RI WANTS MORE-THAN-DOUBLE INCREASE IN TRADE WITH TURKEY: ENVOY

       Jakarta, Sept. 23, 2010 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government wants to see a more-than double increase in its bilateral trade with Turkey over the next few years , the new Indonesian ambassador to Turkey said.
      "Bilateral trade between Indonesia and Turkey reached US$2.1 billion in 2008, and is expected to rise to around US$5 billion in the next few years," Indonesian Ambassador-designate to Turkey Nahari Agustini said here Thursday before leaving for Ankara.
