PAKISTANI EMBASSY HOLDS PAINTING EXHIBITION AT NATIONAL GALLERY

Jakarta, Feb 14 (Antara) - The Pakistani embassy in Jakarta is holding a painting exhibition dubbed "A Glimpse into Pakistani Art Works" at Indonesian National Gallery, Medan Merdeka Timur street, Central Jakarta, from February 14 to 28, 2013.

        "Today, we are making a sincere effort to break new grounds by staging a modest exhibition as part of our cultural outreach to Indonesia," Pakistani Ambassador to Indonesia Sanaullah said in his opening speech of the exhibition here on Thursday.

         The painting exhibition is the third cultural events organized by the Pakistani embassy after the first painting display dubbed "Fusion Art Exhibition" held in 2010 and the second expo "Dreams Stitched in Colors" presenting textile embroideries in 2011.

         The cultural relations between Indonesia and Pakistan are currently flourishing, but the two countries need to organize more art events like this, Sanaullah stated.

         Director of the Indonesian National Gallery Tubagus Sukmana in his remarks on the occasion  said the painting exhibition is a good opportunity for Indonesian  people to know and appreciate art works from Pakistan.

         The exhibition displays tens of paintings by two Pakistani noted artists Jimmy Engineer and Ghulam Rasul, as well as by Ambassador Sanaullah and his wife, Fauzia Mazhar Sana, who is the Pakistani ambassador to the Netherlands, and Ayesha Khan, a Pakistani painter who has been living in Indonesia for 10 years.

         Jimmy Engineer has been acclaimed globally particularly for  his paintings depicting the sufferings of Muslim migrants in the wake of Pakistan's Independence in 1945.
    He has painted over 2,000 original paintings and more than 10,000 calligraphic paintings, which some of them are in private collections in more than 50 countries. Engineer was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Civil Award) for Art from the government of Pakistan in 2005.

         Ghulam Rasul, who passed away in 2009, is one of the most renowned modern painter who introduced the school of flat paintings, giving the effects of phonographic riot of colors.  He painted a lot of village life, nature and rustic human life.

         Ayesha Khan, who claimed that she has fallen in love with Bali, has produced more than one hundred paintings over 20 years of her career as professional artist. She previously held exhibitions in Pakistan, the United States, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

        The Pakistani embassy will organize a carpet exhibition at JW Marriott Hotel, Jakarta, on March 5-7, 2013.
